"If [Trump] gets in, good luck to him. That's what the people wanted...."

"He's an entertainer.... I doubt he thought about becoming president a year ago, and it's like a joke that got out of hand.... It's like [a 1980s comedy movie that] would start with two old billionaires going, 'I bet I can choose the worst person and make him president within a year.' And then someone goes, 'You're on!' and that's how the film starts."

Said Ricky Gervais, very aptly.

Yes, this is a democracy, and if Trump becomes President, there's no blaming Trump. It's something the people made happen. The same goes for Hillary and for our awful predicament having Hillary and Trump as the candidates. That's us. It's like America got up one morning, looked in the mirror, saw it was ugly and had to decide what to do about it. America could put on a big hat, pulled down low over the eyes, dark glasses, and a big scarf around the neck and a big heavy coat before going out into the world. Or America could say, I'm going to be out and proud. I'm going to rock the ugly. Those are the options. What are you going to do?

This meme that Trump stumbled his way into the presidency is wrong. He trademarked "Make America a Great Again" in 2012. He was highly motivated to take on the rotten culture of Washington and the media it has cucked. Trump may not be a political wonk, he may be inconsistent with most if his previously-stated views, but he is not a clown wandering into the circus.

Just watch his Al Smith schtick and you'll see a man on a mission.

I wasn't interested in rocking the ugly. I was interested in restoring some semblance of Constitutional government. Oh well.

One of Trump's close associates remarked that it's almost impossible to get him to focus on anything but himself for any length of time. I believe it. A Trump presidency will be run by aides, advisors and underlings. We can only hope they're good.

I'm writing in Gov. Scott Walker. He was not ready for a prime time candidacy but I think he would make an able president. I do not think Trump will make an able president, but I hope he wins. And that's how truly bad this election is.

Oh, knock it off. If it were up to me to choose the next US President, I would probably not choose Donald Trump. But the idea that a Trump Presidency would be disastrous is just silly. Trump might embarrass us from time to time, but it is hard to see how he could top Bill Clinton fucking an intern in the Oval Office with a cigar. Probably a Cuban cigar. Maybe Trump will grab Angela Merkel by the merkin? She'll get over it. Tell her he's a Muslim, she'll thank him and ask for another. Trump will likely choose a very diverse group of advisors and officials, and have a contentious relationship with the House and Senate. His foreign policy will be the despair of career diplomats. So what? You mean we won't get a two-state solution during his administration? Tsk fucking tsk.

Hillary Clinton is a Hard Left ideologue. She will staff federal agencies with her Left Fascist cronies. She will flood the country with Muslim immigrants, many of whom will prove to be terrorists, and very few of whom will prove to be productive citizens. She will send federal officers to disarm the populace, and they will get their asses shot off in the process of killing a lot of law-abiding people, and imprisoning a whole lot more. Think Gulags. She will follow the Invade-The-World, Invite-The-World approach to foreign policy, which means getting American soldiers killed in filthy hellholes, while importing the people who turned them into hellholes into our communities.

Trump will be an episode in the decline of nation that has seen better days. Clinton will be the governmental equivalent of Ebola. The idea that this is a difficult choice is flatly ridiculous. I can see that there are many people who expect to benefit substantially and directly from Clinton's election. Those people are parasites on the rest of us, and have neither patriotism nor enlightened self-interest. They are exactly the kind of people who will burn down a department store so they can steal a pair of shoes. There may well be enough of them to elect her. But if you aren't one of them, quitcher bitchin, vote for Trump, and get on with your affairs.

I agree with Jupiter. The allegedly "beloved" Obama pretty regularly embarrassed this country on the world stage. Trump can hardly do worse.

I also agree that between the two leading candidates one person is much, much worse than the other. Trump may be like bad-tasting medicine, however Hillary will be a terminal disease.

If you want to equate Trump as "The Candidate" (Robert Redford running with no expectation to actually win) with someone, it is Obama. Hillary Gollum Clinton has lusted and schemed for this since even before she disdained baking cookies -- only she always thought it beneath her that she actually have to ask people to vote for her. She has always felt entitled to "her precious" and that it should just be given to her.

Evidently, Gervais knows nothing about our political process. Neither one of these candidates was what the people wanted.

Hillary had to depend on the Democratic superdelegates plus some tweaking by the DNC to get her nominated. Otherwise, Bernie Sanders might have beaten her.

Trump got nominated with about 38% of the Republican vote against a badly divided field of a dozen candidates. The majority of Republicans did not want him.

The problems that the post-Trump Republican Party, win or lose, will have to navigate to form a cohesive whole after the election have been well covered by the press, both right & left.

What hasn't been covered is: what about the Democrats? If Clinton loses, and she can't even beat Trump, what happens to the Clinton Machine, which the Clintonistas have spent at least 8 years building? Will the Clintonistas all line up & commit suppuku so that their honor is preserved & the Dems can rebuild without them? I really, really doubt it.

If Hillary wins, then what does the rest of the country, especially the Left-wing of the Democratic Party, do as the depth of the Clintonista corruption starts to sink in? Was the election "rigged" against the Republicans? Well, maybe. But it sure as hell was against the Bernie-ites! I just don't see the majority of the Democratic Party lining up to pay obeisance to the arrogant, corrupt, & not-very-talented Clinton Machine for very long.

To paraphrase Nobel Laureate Dylan, a hard rain's gonna fall, & it won't just be rainin' on the Republicans.

It's something the people made happen

Three-quarters of the people -- at least -- have long rejected Hillary, including both in 2008 and 2015-16 when even at least half of Dems wanted either Obama or Sanders. It was only because of the raw power of the corrupt Clinton machine that the Clinton's have corruptly acquired with the assist of enough of the elite oligarchy that she was able to manipulate enough people to seize the nomination and maybe into office.

She may yet make it, but it will be against the desire and will of the vast majority of the country who have tried as best they could to stop it only to be overmatched by a sycophantic collaborating media and a bunch of worthless, spineless worms who are the leadership of the supposed "opposition party."

The Dem establishment, expertly manipulated by the Clinton posse using Hill as a figurehead, gave us Hill as the major Dem candidate -- which most Dem primary voters supported. She represents the Dem party well - inherently corrupt, dishonest to its core, without any settled convictions except to seize power and aggrandize the government itself. Few Dems will wander off the plantation in the general.

The GOP establishment, by contrast, fucked up. It acted weak in the years prior. It barely had any convictions of its own. It didn't weed out sure losers. It didn't stage manage the debates. It didn't do oppo research on Trump. It allowed him to divide and conquer. Thus a clown candidate supported by only a plurality of GOP voters won the primaries.

"America" thinks only Trump is ugly, you know, because he made some sexist comments once, and a rape joke, I have been told by a well-known blogger. "America" will happily vote for the grifter and her rapist husband, as long as "America" can keep feeding at the trough and avoid involuntary nightmares about the global wreckage caused by O and his minions.

Yes and everybody but a few LIVs knows it.

David Goldman, who is one of my go-to guys. thinks Trump will win.

His analysis of Putin is masterful.

The second exception is the present, when Russia's air defense effectively shuts us out of Syria. As some wag wrote, there is a no-fly zone, except it's operated by the Russians. Putin's interest lies in humiliating the US and proving his importance to his Chinese partners, who still need Russian technology in air defense, jet engines, and other military applications.

In addition, Putin as before wants to preempt the creation of a Sunni Islamist government in Syria which would support jihadis inside Russia. Where Turkey is concerned, Putin keeps his friends close and his enemies closer. His deal with Turkey in Syria is a masterstroke, and a gauge of American impotence and incompetence. As for the Europeans: the Italians (!) vetoed a resolution warning of sanctions against Russia at last night's European summit, and the Germans and French bit their tongues. As Il Foglio observes, the Italian public thinks that the mess in the Eastern Mediterranean is the fault of US (and French and UK) policy--which in large part it is.

Trump is the response to the GOP Elites who stopped representing their base, who threw us under the bus so their liberal pals would invite them out to Martha's Vineyard. Trump is the response to a political elite that slimed a civil and respectful grass roots call for change as racist teabaggers. As Glenn Reynolds said:

For Those Who Have Forgotten --

From a November 3, 2000, news story --

What is Clintonism? It is less a political philosophy than a power philosophy. Reduced to a bumper sticker, it reads, "The Ends Justify the Means." As a practical policy, it expresses itself in blatant lies and stonewalling, threats and character assassination, Internal Revenue Service audits of opponents and the menacing of inconvenient women. In its ill-concealed contempt for congressional subpoenas and court orders, it betrays a disturbing executive disregard for the legislative and judicial branches of government, whose powers, of course, are essential to our system of checks and balances. As a guiding national ethos, its corrosive impact on society hasn't yet been fully reckoned, but its success to date is what makes this election so crucial.

Is Clintonism America's future? Considering how comfortably well-off most Americans are, the question may fall on indifferent ears. Maybe the question should be: Can Clintonism hurt America? There are many ways to answer this affirmatively. We can look at the rise of cheating among school children who seem to have learned from Mr. Clinton and his loyal-to-a-fault vice president that crime does pay; or we can consider, painfully, the numbing sexual practices of teen-agers whom Mr. Clinton, through his grotesque indiscretions, has robbed of their innocence (not to mention the rest of us). But are there more palpable, perhaps more immediate threats to the nation that may also be put down to the amoral roots of Clintonism? . . .

What about the law? What about checks and balances on the executive branch? What about the Constitution? These, alas, are just some of the casualties of Clintonism.

I like Gary Johnson, as a person, even if he is a pothead and his thoughts on Roe v. Wade are really bad, "Thomas Jefferson was a slave-owner," I tell myself. "He's got a moral blind spot and his Supreme Court nominee might be awful. Or it might be good."

Needless to say I would not hire a socialist to run my business.

(One might object to the talking of our country as if it's a business to be run, but I find it helpful to think of the campaign season as a job interview, and I'm making a hiring decision. Who do I hire?)

We like to have the illusion that our vote matters. In the aggregate they do, of course. But conformity has never been my strong suit. I feel no need to conform or vote for the winning side. I'm from the South. I'm quite happy to vote for an honorable loser than a shitty winner. Our obsessions with wins and losses is what has brought us to this point.

I am voting for Evan McMullin, if I can, or Gary Johnson, if I cannot. Not sure about the write-in procedures in my state. People who think I am wasting my vote have a rather pompous regard for the importance of their own vote. I've only got one vote. It matters to me. I have to live with it. So I vote my conscience as best I can. I would like to think I have at least a chance of affecting the outcome, so it's not a joke vote. McMullin might win Utah. And I think it would be beneficial for our society to have this election end up in the House.

He's a CIA guy, and a Mormon, so it's easy enough to demonize him. But I really appreciate his Ted talk. Anyway, I'm hoping he wins Utah. If he does, it's mathematically possible that he wins the White House.

Anyway, I am now praying for the Lord to look after us, and let the best candidate win who will help govern our country. It's in the Lord's hands, not really up to me.

"In the meantime, vote your conscience, it's all good."

I guess when Hillary is coronated as Queen with the approval of Chief Justice Kagan, you'll hug yourself for being so noble.

Its Thomas More all over again.

Anyone who doesn't vote for Trump is in reality voting for Hillary.

That's real life.

In 1917 and 1933 the people who stayed home and those who were "too noble" to vote for the only people who could stop Lenin and Hitler - might as well have voted for them. The result was the same.

Agrippina had long been a problem to Nero, always interfering as she did and quarreling about who should be murdered and who shouldn't. Since he owed her everything for murdering Claudius, he had hoped to kill her as gently as possible. He did not want her to suffer, and he went to some lengths to prevent it. He gave her quick poison three times without result, then he fixed the ceiling of her bedroom so it would fall and crush her as she slept. Of course that didn't work. It never does. Either the ceiling doesn't fall or the victim sleeps on the sofa that night.

Next, he attempted to drown her by means of a boat with a collapsible bottom, but the vessel sank too slowly and she swam away like a mink. Nero then lost his head completely, as who wouldn't, and told his freedman, Anicetus, to try anything. Anicetus, a rude but sensible fellow, went and got a club and beat her to death. Maybe the Cave Men knew best.

We cannot be sure how many others Nero murdered, since some of the stories are probably mere gossip. You know how it is. Once you kill a few people, you get a bad name. You're blamed for every corpse that turns up for miles around and anything else that goes wrong.

Take the great fire that destroyed most of Rome in A.D. 64. They say he started it. Be that as it may, he did not fiddle during the conflagration, for the violin had not yet been invented. He played the lyre and sang of the Fall of Troy. What's so awful about that? Of course he shouldn't have tortured so many Christians to prove that they did it. A few would have been plenty.[1]

Anyhow, he rebuilt the city on a more modern plan. The chief improvement was his Golden House, as he called it, an imperial residence a mile long, equipped with a revolving banquet hall, walls of gold and jewels, machines for squirting perfume in all directions, a duplex apartment for his pet ape, and a statue of himself 120 feet high. When he moved in, he said that at least he was beginning to live like a human being. I have been unable to think of an adequate comeback to that remark. You try it.

Nero's singing has occasioned unfavorable comment, quite aside from the fire episode. He sang and sang, in private and in public, accompanied by his lyre, five thousand applauders chosen for their endurance, and a regiment of soldiers with drawn swords. He would step to the front of the stage with his per sonal bodyguard and ask his audience if they had ever heard a better singer. They always said no, they hadn't.[2] If you have been wondering why Nero sang, the answer is clear enough. People sing because they think they can sing.[3]

He made his professional debut at Naples five years after the death of his mother. She was spared that, at least. The theatre was shaken by an earthquake during the show and collapsed after the final selection. Nero got away. Lightning frequently struck near the scene of his concerts. It missed him.

He also went to Greece and sang for a year and a half, after which he returned to Italy and sang. Forty-one citizens conspired to slaughter him, but something went wrong.[4] Then he announced a recital at which he would play the pipe organ, the flute, and the bagpipes and sing a tragedy set to music by himself. The legions rose in Gaul and the Senate declared him a public enemy. As the troops advanced on Rome, Nero proposed to go and meet them and win their hearts by singing a few songs. Somebody had to explain. Assisted by Epaphroditus, his private secretary, he cut his throat on June 9, A.D. 68, the anniversary of his first wife's murder. Well, we're none of us perfect.

2 Nero's voice was thin and weak. Had it possessed more volume, it would have been worse.

3 At the age of twelve Nero had shown a lively interest in the arts, particularly music, painting, sculpture, and poetry. Why was nothing done about this?

4 I don't mind singers so much, if only they wouldn't practice.

Yeah well. That's what they said in 1917. God willed Lenin to take over. And God willed Hitler.

Personally, I'm just going to take all my money and bet it on the roulette wheel. Its all in God's hands. If he wants my family to starve - it'll come up Red. If not, I'm a wealthy man - unlike that Dumbass trump.

Hillary is likely to continue the downward decline of the US under Obama. She might be a little more strategic and stronger on foreign policy, but on domestic policy we can expect her to continue Obama's policy of sacrificing economic growth for whatever lefty fad floats by. As for Donny, who knows? He's what I would label as high variance. There's a chance he could be OK, even good, if he listened to Speaker Ryan. There's a chance he could be awful, far worse than Hillary, if he listens to Steven Bannon. So he's a crap-shoot.
Me, I'm backing Sweet Meteor of Death.

killed one of the men protesting the land grab in Nevada.

Unless you are referring to taking land from Native Americans or the Spanish, there was no "land grab" in Nevada. The federal government has owned that land since it became part of the U.S. (maybe a little less, if it was granted to a tribe and that treaty was nullified).

if donald trump wins the election its solely because of the people who voted for and supported him and not those who didn't vote for him.

it seems like a simple enough concept but i guess emotions run high at this point in the election. since not voting for a candidate is the same as voting for their opponent i’ve already voted for hillary as i'm not voting for trump.

the thing that gets me most steamed about liberals and their electoral fervor is that they don’t even seem capable of understanding why someone wouldn't vote beyond either 'laziness' or 'stupidity' like it's not the hell circus on a four-year cycle.

they don't give a single fucking inch any election. maybe it's because they don't want to address that they are robbing us of democratic power that we could otherwise have with very simple electoral reforms and instead want to frame it as a moral issue in which they somehow have the high ground.

or maybe they really are that smug.

i mean, at least in canada the liberals have to make empty promises of electoral reform in order to get elected. they at least have to address that it is a thing that exists that they are denying to the people.

here it’s just, 'WHAT BUT SO YOU LOVE TRUMP?'

"It's in the Lord's hands, not really up to me"

I used to have a lot of Mormon friends. Good people, salt of the earth. A little bit cultish, but I would trade 10 of my real life friends for 1 of them.

No longer. Ditched them all. Why? They won't fight. They are like the Ents, willing to watch the West fall forever while they stick to some "principle".

This election was the kicker. Their refusal to support Trump is based on his playboy lifestyle, his lewd remarks about women, etc. So I asked them:"Churchill was a drunk and a sexist, but without him, England never would have rallied and defeated the Nazi. Would you have kept him out of office (Lord of the Admiralty and then Prime Minister) based on his sinful lifestyle? Even though that would have meant millions of more Jews put in ovens, the fall of Europe to Hitler, and even the eventual conquering of the Americas by the Nazi?"

Yes, they said.

So screw them. God warns not to forsake this world while anticipating the next. But they are willing to let millions suffer and die so *they* can get to heaven. The would watch a woman be gangraped right on their doorstep but refuse to use lethal force to stop him, because that might stain their souls with blood.

I'm tired of defending the Religious Liberty of those who refuse to fight alongside me. I'm tired of getting beat up by the Left while the Mormons and Christians stand back with "clean" hands. Hillary Clinton will persecute you and everything you hold dear. And I'm just going to watch, laugh, and keep *my* hands clean.

So Sukie, are you in an area where your vote can't possibly matter?

Why yes, yes I am. Can't remember the last time a vote of mine counted for anything. California's primary is so late, even that's usually decided by the time the vote gets around to me--most of the time my candidate of choice isn't even in the running anymore. So it affords me the luxury of making meaningless gestures, that is, voting my conscience, voting my preference. It's pretty much all I've got. I'm a permanent mail-in voter (no polling place) and while they have to count my presidential ballot, much of the time everything's been decided before they start counting the absentee ballots and many of my votes don't get counted at all. Somehow I don't think this is the way it's supposed to work.

I agree with many here about the importance of exercising your vote, even if it means the candidate choice may not be "perfect" in all ways. In this election - one driven more by distracting personality flaws than policy - people should be evaluating the long range consequences of who wins this election. Refusing to vote the top of the ticket or casting a feminine vote for HRC will only accelerate the direction that BO has taken this country. There is no getting off the hook, no moral neutral spot in this election where one can stand by and claim their conscience as some Godly excuse for refusing to vote for the GOP nominee, if you call yourself a moderate or conservatively-inclined.

As I emailed my daughter this morning:

Jesus said, Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's. Voting for a political candidate, to me, falls under the 'Caesar's' category. As does nationhood. We happen to live in the US and are citizens with citizen privileges, just as the Apostle Paul was a citizen of Rome and exercised his Roman privileges.

Saint Croix Studios. One man operation. We are very poor. That's the royal "we" because it's a one-man operation. Although I do have a crew I can put together if and when I raise enough money.

I thought you said you were a sky pilot.

No. God is my pilot. I'm more like a passenger. Or a stowaway.

Now you're an artist? What kind of artist?

Poor!
