Man hands.

A Drudge theme right now:

A topic that came up in the Dali thread, where I'd said "What path did your eye take and how many points of interest did you take in before you saw... the snake around her wrist?" and holdfast said: "before you saw...the creepy man-hands?" Closeup:

Classic "Seinfeld" bit:

Yeah, I missed the "Man hands" - i was too focused on the biceps.

Marlene Deitrich had "Man hands" according to her daughter, and always wore gloves when possible. I wouldn't think that would solve the problem, but I leave the glove wearing to OJ.

I would not have known that was Justin Bieber.

those are not man hands

man hands are big and hairy

creepy fingers are not enough to make your hands masculine

sorry!

I looked at her face, her boob, and then her hands. I missed the snake.

Due to his purported phobia of female genitalia
I can't imagine.

My boss has man hands. She's beautiful, but my eyes always get drawn to the hands.

What defines man hands? Size only or are there other man hand attributes?

Creepy man hands indeed. I used to have a financial client who was a transexual. She was rather tall, about 6 ft, very well groomed, fabulous makeup, beautiful clothing, very feminine and not over the top in an obviously imitating a woman way like some transexuals can be. We had great conversations about quilting and other types of fabric crafts which she was interested in and which I also enjoy. She was/is quite a talented artist.

However, she had big man hands. Very well manicured, graceful big man hands. That was really the only disconcerting physical aspect.

I get the same vibe from the painting. Weird, out of proportion to the the rest of the 'package' man hands.

Pace Justice Potter, I shall not today attempt further to define the elements embraced within that shorthand description "man hands", and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know them when I see them, and Gala Dali's hands are definitely them.

Here are her actual hands. They look pretty normal to me.

@ Freeman

What are man hands? I don't think it is necessarily a derogative term. Size for sure. Generally squarer palms and more defined tendons, veins in the hands. Finger circumference. Men generally have more substantial (if that is the right term) muscular fingers, rather than slender fingers.

Most men's hands just look stronger, as if they have more grip strength. That doesn't mean that women don't have or can't have the same features. Not all men have 'man hands' either. Generally women who have 'man hands' also are women who are more physically active, have jobs or hobbies that require more manual and grip strength.

One woman I know who has definitely 'man hands' is a ranching woman, a widow, who does most of the manual labor on her ranch, delivers calves, picks up bales of hay, mends fences, splits her firewood. She is one tough old bird and has man hands, because she works in a man's occupation.

Another woman is a potter who uses her hands and upper body strength to 'throw' pots on a wheel and knead 20 lb blocks of clay.

Nope, those are pretty damn big hands.

The benchmark for having man's hands was established while I was in college in the late 60's. If you could palm a basketball, you had man's hands.

@ Earnest

Me too....but.....

Perhaps more relevant to the discussion, is how her hands looked to Dali.

Agreed. Here's Dali on her backside: " . . . her body had an infantile complexion, scapula and lumbar muscles a teenager's tension, the curve of her back however, was extraordinarily feminine and gracefully joined the energetic torso with the delicate buttock, that her bee like shaping, made her even more desirable . . . "

Her left index finger in the painting gives me the creeps. Not male or female but skeletal. Just as thin in the photo, but not creepy.

I'll be so glad when the tattoo/piercing craze dies out.

A bit weirdly, earlier today I saw a post from Smile Syndicate: an old classical music album cover, conductor's hands looking creepy.

Ever since Michelle Obama's shoulders were said to be proof that she is a Tranny, the Youtube world has gone crazy spotting all strong women celebrities as men in disguise. They are wrong of course, because that some women have some male strength in their approach or that some men have some female tenderness in their approach is totally normal.

Anyone who has not seen that hundreds of times over in their lifetime has zero emotional perception...which is a female trait that us men need to learn.

Those aren't "Man hands" that Dali has painted in his portrait of his wife. The fingers are long and lean. They are a pianist's hands.
